    Hi Mark

Not really sure where to post this.

Trips is a great new feature. Can you let me know if the trips works off the date taken or date posted? That way I can fiddle with the dates to get the trip to show up properly.

Also for the next version I think it would be good if the trips section could developed to maybe choose a location from the DB rather than a photo. For example I don't have a photo from leaving (at the airport say) so it'd be nice to choose, Manchester, England as the starting point for example. It'd also be nice to set certain points throughout the journey that the trip could follow. For a long journey like we are on where we maybe have visited somewhere but haven't uploaded photo's, location could get missed. However, I understand this is primarily for displaying photo's rather than mapping trips!

Maybe this could fit under an advanced button for trips where you could set by location then add another location etc, another, another. A big ask I know but I'm happy to alter the required dates to get it to work.

    Cheers

    Rich

Oh, and being able to type the Hex code into the route line colour box would be handy!

    Hi Guys,

Great ideas! The more feedback I can get on how you want to build trips the better as there's lots of ways to approach it.

It's based on the time the photo was taken. Everything in Flickrmap is based around photos in Flickr so the best I can suggest is that you upload a photo of your home town and change the date taken to match the start of the trip.

I'll look at adding future locations/trip lines some how. I've already got the code for dashed lines working which would look good.

Any new photos that Flickrmap finds which falls between the start and end photo of a trip should automatically become a part of that trip.

@Rich Hex? Did you see the nice colour picker you get when you click on the swatch? You can pick any colour under the sun. I'll pop a text field in blow for the hex geeks.

Flickr will soon be moving into doing basic mapping so Flickrmap will become more and more about documenting trips and other travel oriented mapping. This is why I wanted a Flickrmap in the first place and I suspect most of you want the same. Show off all the great places you've visited.

What else would you like Flickrmap to do for you???

    Thanks Mark,

Re: the Hex, I did see the colour picker yeah, it works well, I just wanted to match the colour to the link colour on my website and can't find it with the picker - too many colours! - if a text field can be added in that would be great!

Re: Trips development: Maybe it would be a good idea to have something like the Flickr organiser for trips - e.g. Flickrmap could set up an automatic trip then users could drag photo's into the order of their trip. Or add in a location they went through but didn't photograph - airport transfers etc For instance we did't fly Manchester to Mallaca but went through KL first. The trips could then probably be set up like sets in Flickr and be easier to manage.

Another idea may be to allow users to shade the countries they have visited/have photo's of a different colour thus allowing them to see their own 'visited' world. Personally I would like this to be optional. What do people think?

Also being able to choose which photo represents your trip (like sets again) would be handy, rather than it automatically choosing the starting picture.

Also on the maps, like here Flickrmap are the most recent photo's taken by location - e.g if I have 3 with the same GeoTag only one will show at the bottom? I think thats whats happening but wanted to check.

If I think of anything else I'll let you know!

    Hi Mark,

I didn't realize, until I read it here, that the black bar was a colour swatch. It didn't even occur to me to click on it. Perhaps you should label it.

Hi ...trips is a great feature, BUT...I want something more similar to what RichClark is suggesting. I want to be able to select my starting point and then pick one picture from a location and simply have one trip path from the start to the end photo. Currently I can pick the start and end and I get a big collection of zig zagging lines because (I assume) my starting photo wasn't really from a coherent trip it was just a photo from my starting location taken a few years before the trip photos. I know adding the lines based on phototaken time is a cool feature BUT it won't work for custom crearing paths which I suspect a lot of people will need or want to do. Keep up the great work....thanks...Sandy

The other direction I thought of implementing for the trips was to just base it on a set at Flickr. That way what ever you put in a set and in what ever order would be turned into a trip on Flickrmap. Would that make more sense for the way you want to make them?

Hmmmm, using sets could work, as for me it would just mean creating a new set and dropping those pictures in. If the trip could be displayed in the order the photo's in the set are in too that would be perfect. It's so easy to drag them around in Organizer anyway.

One query, for example I have quite a few Sydney pics, I'm guessing the easy way to get around lots of lines going around the city would be to just drop one Sydney image into that set?

Also while we're on the subject of trips, I've just uploaded more pictures and noticed that I have had to change my end photo for the trip (which isn't a problem). but it would be nice to have the option on a trip to say 'End Photo > Select most recently uploaded ' so it does it automatically. Again using sets would probably get around this if it could auto update.

Cheers Zeman continue the great work

same for me, trip really is a cool feature and is the basic reason why i decided to get a premium map. i am a little disappiinted though (only just a little) cause i had all my normal pictures from earlier trips (without digicams) scanned and uploaded to flickr, they do not have a date though. setting waypoints would be a nice feature, or even better (as mentioned before): trips based on a set. that way you set the order of your pix in organizr and flickrmap checks for that order and calculates the trip. that would be perfect for me.
another thing: as i do not have pictures from the airports (where a trip normally starts or ends) at least a start- and end waypoint to be set would be great. maybe trips based on a set plus the feature to set waypoints would be the best solution, i'd love it if you could find the time to implement that. keep up the great work!

You can now set the end photo for a trip to "current trip" which means that any new photos found at Flickr after the starting photo of the trip will be automatically added to that trip. No need to keep moving the end photo while you're uploading photos on a long trip.

I'm still thinking about the best way to add starting and ending locations that aren't linked to a photo. Everything in Trippermap is photo based so I need to create a work around.

Regarding waypoints and starting locations, why not simply find an unlicensed image of your departure airports? I'm using them to set up route maps in advance, and then I'll replace them with my own pics once I get to each place, along with a different route color.

Basically, you could have a "planned route" and "actual route" that can be shown simultaneously. Just a thought.

    Thanks Mark,

    C.J.

I'll throw in for the set organization for the trips... it's intuitive, and I think most people sharing geo-coded photos are organizing them into sets based on individual trips. Odds are they would be chronological in order and once mapped, they would work perfectly...

having a trip based on a flickr set would work well for me. I could then add one or two photos from each destination into a set to make a trip.

Alternatively, to do it from within trippermap you could have an option to add more photos in between start and finish to help build your own trip manually.

Or search for tag 'summer 2006' and add all these tagged photos to one trip. Or click/unclick photos you want to add to that trip.
