I've just added a new web app and tutorial on how to geotag your Flickr photos with Google Earth. This is the most accurate and easiest way to tag photos I know.
1. First time through I missed the instruction in step 1 to 'Tick the "Refresh Parameters" box and under "View-Based Refresh > When" choose the "On request" option.'
Unless you do this, nothing works as expected (duh!!!)
2. I've had success using View Based Refresh "After camera stops" instead of "On Request". This saves having to click "Refresh" all the time.
The "after camera stops" option is great if you're doing a whole geotagging session. I didn't want to have this option on by default as if everybody leaves it on there will be a lot of extra requests to the server. Go for it thou.
Bravo! You really surprised me when I logged into flickrmap this morning. With my name at the top of the page, your greeting was personal. That's a nice touch.
And your instruction on tagging was very nice. Cheers.
Was ready to settle down for a day of geotagging, however when I open google earth i get a under Flickrmap Geotagger I get some text saying Please upgrade your Flickrmap Geotagger Network Link. When I click on that it just takes me to your geotagging tutorial page, I've had another look through that and it doesn't look like anything has changed.
I've tried starting from scratch and I just get the same message
I've tried replacing the word flickr for tripper in the network link address and get the same message.
I'm obviously missing something somewhere but can't figure it out. Help!
ebygomm please try deleting the current network link to the geotagger you have in google earth and downloading it from the turorial page again by clicking on the network link icon.
Ah, I see, after I deleted I followed the old instructions that are on the video about creating a network link and typing in an address, perhaps should have actually read the instructions that are on screen.
All working fine now, although I already spent the day geotagging manually :-S
On the plus side it's reaffirmed what I thought about this being the best geotagging method around, I tried some other ways but none of them was anywhere near as good.
Does this work with the Google Earth 4 Beta? Yesterday I geotagged a batch, only to find that they were all set to the location of the first pic (didn't spot that the lat/long details weren't changing for each pic, unfortunately) and today the same thing except that the co-ordinates are out by 60miles. I was making sure to refresh the location on both occasions...
Krypo: Sure does. Are you on Mac or PC? I've noticed that IE 7 seems to not refresh sometimes within the GE interface if you've upgraded already.
In your preferences can you set your view/rendering to "degrees" and then check that the location of the center of the map is the same as is showing up at the top of the Trippermap Geotagger page.
Will there be an option to see more then 50 images per page? Or to have multiple pages of photos? The problem I'm having is when I take 100 photos in a city, then go to geotag that city it only shows 50 of the 100 photos. My fix is to add a 3rd tag to the 2nd 50 photos so i can search for them, but this is not an ideal fix. What is the best way to geotag sets of photos greater then 50?
thisyear: I've upped the search results to 100. If you're tagging them all with exactly the same location you might want to use the Flickr Organizr so you can drop them on as a batch.
My apologies - was a dumb mistake (wasn't clicking the 'geotag Flickr photos' link each time - didn't think it through properly). Sorry to have bothered you!
