Here's a few of the features I'm exploring or have planned for upcoming versions of Flickrmap.com. Please suggest any others you'd really like to see added to Trippermap.
Extra settings for turning off auto-labelling of locations, making trips the default tab.
Multiple language options for the text used within the Trippermap flash interface.
Map a set at Flickr to a trip on Trippermap allowing people to just put a few photos in a set, adjust the order and have the set mapped as a trip.
Different location icons slected by users and different sizes to indicate how many photos are at that location.
Have the Trippermap Geotagger automatically refresh a Flickrmap account if the Geotagger user is a subscriber.
Including all private photos on map for people who want to have a private map on a password protected page.
Set a trip as current so any new photos at Flickr get added to it.
A cached version of locations at Amazon S3 as a backup in case we need to maintain the Flickrmap website and database.
Being able to scroll through more photo thumbnails per location if you have more than 8 photos.
A tool on the download page to visually configure all the map options.
A hosted version of the map for blog users who can't upload any of the map files.
Option to not show a large photo or link to flickr when clicking on a location.
Geotag your photos via flickrmap.com and Google Earth.
I'd love to be able to filter pictures on the map by date taken. So if I did a trip to Europe in, say, December 2003, I could see only those locations/pictures on the map. Maybe in the far, far future? :-)
Is there a way to deactivate the mouse-over-"fly-to" when moving the mouse over the lower latest-added thumbnails? I´d really appreciate such an option... Best wishes from Germany, Alex
At the moment no but in the next version of the map I'm going to change the way it works. One click to move the map to that location and double click to view the large photo. It's just too annoying when you accidentally roll over a thumb nail and have the map jump to a new location..
I love Flickrmap but I think it can use the following features:
- ability to style all flash elements - controls, borders, photobox bg, everything! - being able to see all of the photos for each location - matching locations to exact coordinates (if possible, and if not already done - not totally sure) - display the tags, comments, and description of each photo and have a customizable link for the tag
Hi Zeman I love FlickrMap and being able to visually see photo journeys over the years. have you thought about allowing an option to filter the points that are seen by one of the other tags added in Flickr? Examples a. Filter on 'treks" to just see walks - likewise for a person's name b. Filter on accomodation to just see place to stay
The flickrmap is ingenious...kudos. In addition to what others have mentioned, here are a few more things that would be great to see:
- ability to zoom in more than currently allowed (I am working on a project that is very locally-based and I would like to zoom in closer on a city and/or to see street-scale views - probably because of the difficulty of something like that, it seems that flickrmap is made for a larger scale...but what about us city situationist geeks with gps devices? ;-)
- ability to set the default zoom closer in than you currently can
- we can't host more than one map per user, right? It would be great if we could
- let user toggle layers on and off (along these lines, make layer names changeable, so people can add custom layers - i.e. i'd like to add city boundary outlines, but don't need lakes, etc., so I'd create a 'city boundary' layer and let the user toggle it on/off if it's taking up too much memory or they just don't like it)
- ability to vary the size of the photos in the popup bubbles (while the thumbnail sizes on the bottom are great at 75px, it would be great to see larger photos in the popups - like flickrs 'thumbnail' or 'small' sized photos - that aren't grainy from resizing on the fly in the config.xml)
and for dessert... - ability to chose a location for the thumbnail bar (i.e. on the right or left side, rather than on bottom, etc.)
Would like some better control of security settings. At the moment Flickrmap only recognises public photos is this correct? Is it possible to make a kml from private photos - with a password or "family setting" locked into the kml code. If someone is given the kml then can use
Most interested in using the programme as a survey tool for remote control of work teams. Want to keep the information private and shareable between certain staff members with zero risk of being seen by others.
Any ideas?
Its a very powerful work tool when combined with Google Earth Keep up the good work. Z
Multiple Flickr Maps. It would be nice to have multiple maps, perhaps filtered by tag. Flickr Map is great, but I don't like being limited to one map when I would like to seperate certain points.
If you can update your list of feature-changes or improvements you're hoping to make, that would be nice. Maybe they can be listed in order of priority or interest. That way, we can see what's on your list, and what's not.
For instance, you've acknowledged, through email, that one of my concerns is now on your to-do list. It had to do with widescreen 16:9 photos being cropped in the split-screen. But I don't see that listed here. I'm sure it would be nice for others who might share similar concerns to see that it's something that you've already noted, and is on your list. Cheers.
Please, please, please add the ability to show private photos on Flickrmap. I paid for the premium service before I realized that this was only for public Flickr photos. I don't like to make all of my pictures public, because many feature people.
I'd love to be able to support private photos on Flickrmap, but currently it's not really possible, or at least very clumsy. For someone that visits your website to be able to see private photos they would have to authenticate Flickrmap by clicking through to Flickr. I would then have to get every Flickrmap subscriber to authenticate at Flickr, scan all the private photos and then when an authenticated request comes in from a Flickrmap decide which photos to display.
At this stage there are no plans to support private photos. If you're putting a map on a public website or blog then I assume that the majority of people want their photos to be public.
Mark, I'm confused about why private photos require individual authenticaion with Flickr, when there are systems like FAlbum that do exactly what people want with regard to private photos. FAlbum, a wordpress plugin, gets itself authenticated and approved to access private photos (and write data when necessary), and they gives users a configuration setting about whether they want private photos displayed on their site via the plugin.
Flickrmap is already registering and authenticating for permissions to one's Flickr account, obviously to enable the FlickrMap geotagger to write the geotags to the photos in Flickr itself.
Why could FlickrMap not use that same authentication in a redirected fashion to the flash client? Thanks for the consideration of this. There are people that put FlickrMaps on private (passworded) websites that want to display all of their Flickr photos -public and private- without forcing their site visitors to register and get approved via Flickr. FAlbum does exactly this, and it'd be super to see FlickrMap do the same. That's actually the feature that marks my readiness to pay for FlickrMap.
You're right that there could be an option to include all your private photos on Flickrmap for anyone to see and then you could put Flickrmap on a password proteced page to maintain privacy. The sinario I described above is if you wanted an indivdual viewer of the map to be authenticated and either show or not show private photos to that map viewer. It's never really occured to me that people would want their private photos included and then to make the whole map private. I'll look into this option for a future version.
Thanks, Mark! FAlbum makes a great example of what I think people are hoping for.
Flickrmap is really, REALLY cool by the way. Thanks so much for this tool. And even though I said that private photos are the marker of my willingness to pay, I'm going to go ahead and purchase a pro map anyway. It's obvious that you're really behind your work here. That's fantastic. Keep it up!
What about having the option to give visited countries a different color, like here:
http://douweosinga.com/projects/visitedcountries
And my second wish would be, to give the links other names, e.g. the German ones.
And my last question is, how can I change the order of my pictures. Now they are ordered by the "most recent fotos", but for my trips it would be better that the first foto of the trip cames first, ordered "by photo taken date".
Unfortunately the map data I'm working with can't be broken up into individual countries at the moment (I might be able to change the way it's converted) so I can't colour individual countries.
By map links do you mean the text in the map? This is something I'd like to do down the track.
With links I mean the text in the map, but for me its ok when this is coming later, but I have problems displaying German letters in trip descriptions as well (see diferent thread).
What about the order of the pictures? How can I set the first picture of trip coming first in a slideshow. By now the most recent uploaded picture is coming first and thats the last picture of a location, since I uploaded them by taken date to flickr.
I'll look into the language support. It may be a problem with the font I'm using in flash.
The trip slide show already starts with the first photo in a trip. You might want to check that Flickr is showing the correct dates next to your photos. If it can't find the date taken in the photo it sets it to the date uploaded and if you uploaded them in reverse order they would play backwards in the slideshow.
Any hope for wordpress.com users? I just paid for this, not realizing it wouldn't support a flash embed (nor Javascript). I had recently switched to wordpress.com when Blogger screwed up my blog. Was just curious.
ATHiker95: As far as I know wordpress.com don't allow Flash files of any sort to be run on their blogs. You would need to get your own copy of wordpress running and then you could edit it to allow flash or javascript in the pages.
ATHiker95: I've emailed support at wordpress.com and they said they would consider adding code to support Trippermap on wordpress.com only if they got a bunch of requests from blog users. So the best thing you can do is send them a request asking them to support Trippermap and encourage others on wordpress.com to do the same.
I am new to this, but you have a great app here!!!
Just wondering, currently trippermap work with geotags, EXIF locations and city tags. It seems like that trippermap take city name (more general) over the geotag(more accurate).
Is there a way to set the priority of these?
:hinting (PS. I seems to have found the answer on one of the other threads, but is the priority customisable?)
Multiple Flickr Maps that´s also my number one request.
I´m new to trippermap and actually was thinking to use it for a group. Is this possible? I would like to have a map showing fishing pictures (hotspots) around the world. People would tag photos in the "fishing group" and they would end up on the map. Not just pics from my personal account.
I would like to have an option whereby you can create links to different map previews.
E.g. I would like to be able to write in my blog about a certain trip and have a clickable link which would then zoom the trippermap in on that route/trip
First of all, my compliments for the application you made. I decided to get the full version and it looks great and I'm very happy to use it on my website (in development) about the philippines.
What would be valuable additions for me are: - the possibility to add a link on a photo to a page of my website or; - the possabillaty to include google adds on a photo based on the photo tags
Continue the good work. I hope to see the additions in your next version of trippermap!
Is it possible to make the gui in the bottom a little bit more changeable, like changing the font colour and size and also the background colours? that would be great! many thanks for that great application, best regards, albert
Excellent tool, my request may be rather hard / large to implement.
Can you make a version that uses picasa (http://picasaweb.google.com) as the data source via it's API. I personally dont like Flickr, the google product is make nicer and far easer to use.
Hiya, I really loved trippermap and flickr until flickr got banned in China, which is where I'm currently living which makes the whole thing kind of a dud for me. I was just wondering if there was any chance of you supporting any other photo sharing sites, or even photos hosted on our own servers (I have a plan with dreamhost)?
It would be nice to see a list of all photos in a trip as a quick way of determining if the correct ones are all included. I don't need to see the actual photos as a combination of date/time and name is enough to identify what's there and what's not.
For Digital camera photos this isn't an issue. Individual scanned photos with dates changed are because Flickr is not so user friendly in this respect.
Hi, Thanks for a great tool! Do you have any idea of when the version of Trippermap will be ready that can switch between map data providers as you discuss on the flicrk+google page at http://www.trippermap.com/index_flashgoogle.php. This would be a very useful addition for our mapping and demographic analyses of green access and equity. www.cityprojectca.org Best, Robert
I'm just heading away on holiday for a month and the ONLY thing I'll be doing in my spare time is working on the new version of Trippermap. I'm committed to having at least a beta version up and running by the 15th of Feb. More news about the new version on the blog and forum soon.
Tripper is great - thanks! This thread seems to have been quiet for a while, but I'm a newbie here, so here's my 2 cents anyway...
The google maps version works really smoothly - better than flash, as several people have mentioned here. I think you're working on other ways to combine things, but any chance of a google maps version with an embed code in the meantime for sites that don't allow script?
Also, I mentioned in another post, but the flash version doesn't seem to be able to cope with the international date line - the map doesn't repeat, so it splits the trip in two. Maybe low priority for most people, but it'd be great if there was a fix for that.
NIce job, though - I hope you can keep polishing it!
(Guess I'll make the now-annual contribution to this thread.)
Not being able to limit the map to a Flickr set, collection or gallery or is a deal-killer for me. Adding unique tags to the photos - ie, altering the original data - is verboten.
I've got around 1400 geotagged photos in various sets on Flickr so all I get on my trippermap is an image of the entire world and a spinning beachball as Safari grinds away trying to load all 1400 pictures.
An additional requirement is some way to manage more than one map per trippermap account. Surely this tool was envisioned to allow users to create different maps for different purposes?
